California Lunacy Is Coming for You

What happens in California doesn’t stay in California. And Gavin Newsom is Exhibit A.

California regulators have now approved new efficiency standards for replacement tires. Yes, tires. Sacramento has decided that even the rubber on your wheels needs another layer of government regulation. The California Energy Commission says the standards will save drivers money on fuel. Critics are warning about consumer choice, costs and government overreach.

But this story is much bigger than tires.

This is how left-wing lunacy works.

California becomes the laboratory. Progressives regulate it, mandate it, restrict it or ban it. Then the same political movement tries to take those ideas national.

Gas-powered cars. Energy mandates. Appliance regulations. Climate restrictions. And now Sacramento is deciding which replacement tires are efficient enough for Californians to buy.

That is why Gavin Newsom’s California record could become his biggest problem if he runs for president.

He can change the scenery. He can change the message. He can try to sell himself as the polished, reasonable face of the Democratic Party.

But he can’t escape California.

Because the real question for voters won’t be whether Gavin Newsom can run America.

It will be: Do you want America run like California?
