On Saturday’s Stinchfield Report on 570 KLIF, I took Seattle’s NBC affiliate to task for a very biased report on the gun debate in Oak Harbor Washington. You can hear my breakdown of King 5 Reporter Jim Forman’s story here.
You may remember when I first reported on the Oak Harbor controversy. The tiny Washington city banned concealed handgun license holders from carrying their weapons in city parks, even though the ordinance was a violation of Washington State law. City Councilman Rick Almberg made the ridiculous motion to have all CHL holders check their guns with police inside council chambers when a wounded Army vet spoke against the gun ban in parks. That motion was NOT passed.
Last week, the city overturned the gun ban in parks, but according to Jim Forman’s report on KING5 News, it had nothing to do with public outrage and only a city council that “Gave in to the gun lobby’s interest.” Forman made no mention of the dozens of city residents who called for the councilman’s resignation. He than ended his piece by saying, “as of tonight, it’s now legal to carry your guns in the playgrounds and parks of Oak Harbor.”
I explain why that statement alone is irresponsible and typical of the liberal media’s bias and penchant for exaggeration.

Hi Jim,
I live in Syracuse, NY and just finished listening to the Stinchfield Report out of Texas.
Had to say, I’ve been following ALL the coverage coming out of Oak Harbor, and Grant is right. Your coverage is biased, and if you aren’t standing up to consultants telling you to overlook the average citizen’s call for local officials to resign – you should probably do a story on that!
Bottom line here, Almberg and his buddy decided they could blow off state law and take away their neighbor’s legal right to protect their family.
To disrespect their role in the outcome makes as much sense as Andrew Cuomo claiming the 50+/- counties in NY to pass resolutions calling for the repeal of the “SAFE” Act are “just a vocal minority.”
Oak Harbor had less to do with a powerful gun lobby, and more to do with average Americans defending their Second Amendment right.
No doubt you just don’t get it, and never will. And as far as your comment about torpedos, well, that just proves you are another ignorant liberal in a position to influence the general population – and that is what I call a torpedo to the Second Amendment.
