America is a proud nation of immigrants. Our future prosperity depends on wise, just, and orderly immigration policies. America should always welcome those who can contribute to our economy and culture.
However, with our unsecure borders, our current system favors those who break the law to enter our country illegally. We must start by immediately securing our borders,
America must figure out a way to document every person coming in, and going out, of this country. We must close off our boarders, even if it takes building a fence across every inch of our southern border and deploying troops to patrol it.
With high fences, comes wide gates. We need to make it easier for good, hard working people to come to the U. S. and live the American dream.
America was built on immigrant labor and we should continue to stand as a beacon of light for those men and women who want to come here legally to make a better life for themselves and their families.
Still, we must create real penalties for businesses that hire illegal immigrants — often at extremely low pay and in inhuman working conditions–rather than American citizens or those here legally. This will not only disincentivize companies from breaking the law, but also incentivize the illegals already here to either register or go home.
After the border is secure, we must implement a guest worker program that requires workers to pay income taxes. Guest workers should never be entitled to unemployment benefits, Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid.
I look forward to the contributions tomorrow’s legal immigrants will bring to our country!
